I always have had lots of trouble finding a hand cream that is clean. Meaning NO added hormone disruptors, benzonates, perfumes and other unessecary toxins and chemicals. That also works for very dry skin and doesn’t cost 300 kr for 100 ml. Yeah face it, going “natural” is for some reason VERY expensive at times.
Most dry skin formulas uses very heavy fats and butters, but I don’t really feel like they are penetrating the skin. Not until I figured out how to use vegetable glycerine as part of my formula. It truly worked like magic. I even tested it on my husbands feet who at that point was dryer than the Sahara desert, and just after 1 night of applying the mosterizer the dryness was gone and his human feet came back.
Glycerol is a sugar alcohol that is derived from animal products, plants or petroleum. Vegetable glycerine is made by heating triglyceride-rich vegetable fats like palm, soy or coconut pils, under pressure or together with a strong alkali, such as lye. It causes the glycerine to split from the fatty acids and mix with water, forming an odorless, sweet tasting syrup like liquid. It is commanly used in the food industry, cosmetics and in Phamacutical industrise.
Other benefits of glycerol is that it helps skin health by sooth irritation, protect against irritants and microbes as well as sooth inflamed or wounded skin. It can also work as a barrier on the skin when it needs protection from the natural elements like wind and cold. Though It seems to have no effect on stinging, itching, drying or irritation.
The cool thing about glycerine is that it helps oil and waterbased ingredients so mix, buuut it ususally needs a emulsifier in addition to mix even better. Emulsifiers can be found organic and natural derived or full on chemicals, for me it was important to keep it as clean as possible. For this reason I chose beeswax as my emulsifier.
What I used
- 1 spoon Cacaobutter
- 1 spoon beezwax
- 50 ml of olive oil
- 50 ml of grapeseed oil
- 1 spoon of shea butter
- 100 ml of glycerine
- Hand held blender
- (10-15 drops of orange essential oil)
Gently melt everything over a water bath. Add the glycerine at the end. At this point glycerine and the rest of the oils are not going to mix. Pop the whole thing it in the fridge for 15-20 min, then use your blender and mix it well. Now everything should be good and blended. Pour the finished product in containers. I used 2 containers so I can keep 1 fresh in the fridge. There is no plant material in this so I don’t think it will spoil easily, but I if you want to make sure to keep it from growing bacteria, use a spoon or a spatula when using the cream. Best applied at night before sleeping 🌙
Originally I made this cream for my son who’s hands where cracking up from all the hand-washing at school, but seriously it works for everything and everyone. AND it is SAFE, pure and natural ❤
Enjoy being soft and moisturized😘
