Up-cycled: from t-shirt to top

Blog2 front cover 3
HI  ❤
I think we can agree when I say that, everyone has a t-shirt laying around that we don't feel the love for anymore.
So, what if instead of letting it be a closet-filler, we make it into something wearable for this summer?
This is a super easy way of turning your dull and sad t-shirt into a summer hit.

What you need;

  • 1 non fitted t-shirt
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Ruler
  • Chalk pencil
  • Needle and thread

blog 2 collage use

  1. Start with cutting of the hemline on the bottom of the t-shirt. Save it for later, we will use it in the end.
  2. Now we need to mark how many fringes we want. Exact calculation would be the width divided on 28 fringes (or the number on fringes that you want). This gives you exactly how big each fringe should be. I marked the bottom the shirt first, then I measured how long I wanted my fringes to be. Mine is 15 cm. Then measure the width of the t-shirt. it should be the same as the bottom width. Stretch the fabric a little to make it match if it doesn’t. Then mark your fringes, and use a ruler to connect the dots 😉
  3. Then use the scissor to cut all the fringes. Just make sure the back of the t-shirt is totally flat before you start to cut through the double layer. Start with cutting the sides first.
  4. Measure 4 cm from the neckline, make a mark. Then use the ruler to draw a straight line from the marked point to the armhole.
  5. Cut along the marked line, and then under the seam of the armhole.
  6. Now we use the hemline we cut off in the beginning to make some detailing and work with the shape. Measure about 5 cm from the neckline on both sides, then wrap the hem around so it overlap in the inside by at least 1 cm. Cut and make a stitch or two to hold it in place. Do the same on the other side.
  7. Use the rest of the hemline to tie a bow in the back. Make a couple of stitches on the back of the bow to make sure it stays like that.
